Rosa Velázquez

Co-Founder & President

Rosa is a proud Latina from Durango, Mexico. She has dedicated her work tirelessly in various sectors, including nonprofit organizations, private businesses, and local government. While working with local government officials, advocating for policies and initiatives that promote equity, inclusivity, and community development Rosa found her passion for creating opportunities and fostering growth for Latino-owned businesses. 

The evolution of the Latino Business Network & Allies (LatinoBNA) represents a significant project for Rosa, marking the establishment of the first Latina Chamber of Commerce at the national, state, and county levels. This milestone underscores the organization’s pioneering role in fostering and supporting Latina businesses, contributing to the broader landscape of business development and representation.

Ingrid Escalante

Co-Founder & Vice President

Ingrid, a proud Latina from Guatemala, holds the distinction of being the first in her family to graduate from college, earning a bachelor’s degree. In 2013, she took a significant step by establishing her accounting firm, Bottom Line Accounting. Specializing in serving small to midsize businesses in the community, Ingrid has become a notable figure in the local business landscape.

Her impact extends beyond the realms of her firm, particularly during the financial literacy sessions she conducts through the Unity Council and ACLCC. Ingrid firmly believes in the transformative power of guidance and robust community support, fostering a conviction that anyone can thrive with the right assistance. Her journey exemplifies both personal achievement and a commitment to empowering others within her community.

Elsi Gomez

Co-Founder & Treasurer

Elsi, a proud Latina from Ecuador, brings over two decades of expertise in event management as the owner of Equinox Events and a leader in multiple departments at Event Magic. Beyond her successful ventures, her journey serves as a testament to the potency of perseverance, adaptability, and active community involvement. 

Elsi’s story underscores the importance of maintaining cultural identity while wholeheartedly embracing the opportunities presented in a new country. In her pursuits, she not only achieves personal success but also contributes significantly to the empowerment and representation of Latina entrepreneurs in Alameda County.

Laura Romo

Co-Founder & Executive Board Member

Laura, a proud Latina from Mexico, has navigated diverse entrepreneurial ventures over the past fifteen years. From a fashion shop and a cleaning services franchise, she has transitioned to the ownership of A Romo’s Cafe, a coffee shop in Hayward. In her cafe, Laura takes pleasure in both culinary pursuits and engaging conversations with her customers.

Beyond her business endeavors, Laura actively participates in various community groups dedicated to supporting small business meetings. Her involvement includes sharing valuable information and educational resources for fellow business owners. During the establishment of her coffee shop, Laura found inspiration and motivation through interactions with Rosa and Elsi, impressed by their passionate commitment to aiding small businesses. Her journey reflects resilience, adaptability, and a deep sense of community engagement.

Mayra Chavez Saavedra 

Executive Board Member

Mayra, who takes pride in her Oakland upbringing and maintains a strong connection to her Mexican heritage, has experienced a noteworthy transformation throughout her professional journey. Beginning as a paralegal at an immigration attorney firm, she later collaborated with Oakland City Councilmember Noel Gallo, concentrating on bolstering nonprofits, Latino businesses, and the broader Latino community. 

Her journey continued at The Unity Council, where she played a pivotal role in designing and launching Onward Oakland, a program dedicated to supporting and equipping small businesses in Oakland and the greater Bay Area, ultimately benefiting over 300 businesses. Currently serving as the Director of Community Engagement for Oakland’s Mayor, Sheng Thao, Mayra maintains her focus on supporting the small business community. Her diverse experiences underscore a profound commitment to community service, particularly in empowering and uplifting the business landscape in Oakland.

Yudy Herrera Orellana

Executive Board Member

Yudy, a proud Latina from El Salvador, currently stands as the co-owner of Orellana’s Building and Remodeling. Her journey began as a traditional artist, immersed in the world of sketching doodles and letters. With over 7 years of experience in the non-profit sector, Yudy has left an indelible mark on community projects. Collaborating with six local nonprofits, she played a vital role in providing technical assistance for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project, working hand-in-hand with the City of Oakland and AC Transit. 

Yudy’s commitment extended further, offering essential technical support to over 100 Latino businesses. Her expertise in graphic design and marketing became a beacon, guiding these businesses toward success. Yudy’s story is a testament to the fusion of artistic passion and community dedication.
